Welcome to St Joseph School - Keren

St. Joseph’s School is one of the globally known Lasallian Catholic Schools, owned and run by the Brothers of the Christian Schools also known as De La Salle Brothers. The school is found in the small town of Keren, in Eritrea. St. Joseph’s School is almost 65 years old. It is a school that has a history of success and fame. St. Joseph’s was opened in April 1950 with only 150 students, it presently enrolls 1700 students, both boys and girls with 56 teaching staff and 13 non teaching staff. The school gives an inclusive, integral and holistic education to thousands of young Eritreans, especially to the children of Keren town and its surrounding villages.

Our mission

The Mission of St. Joseph’s School is to give a human and Christian education to its students, especially the poor. The School in line with the Lasallian Mission Statement is committed to give quality formation to its students by nurturing in them human and gospel values and by promoting academic excellence. It offers a conducive educational environment by providing a healthy, spiritual, fraternal inclusive community; adequate facilities for research and learning; and sharing the educational responsibility with all its partners including parents.

The majority of its students come from poor families. Keren town is one of the areas continuously stricken by drought. Consequently, most of the parents of our students are economically disadvantaged. Hence the school is still dependent on donor assistance.
